2013 PREA Incidents

Standards 115.87 (b) and 115.89 (b) of the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) require state departments of corrections to publish aggregate incident-based sexual abuse data at least annually and make that data readily available to the public through its web site or other means. The figure below shows the PREA incident types by case outcome for Nevada Department of Corrections (NDOC) state facilities. The NDOC submits calendar data to the Bureau of Justice Statistics for our agency's annual survey of sexual violence.

Comparison and Assessment

As mandated by the PREA standard 115.88(c) this is the first report for comparison data for assessment of the agency's progress in addressing sexual abuse. Because it is the first, there is no data available for comparison based upon the PREA standard not becoming effective until August of 2012.
