Historical:
The Nevada Department of Prisons selected Corrections Corporation of America as the private corrections contractor to design, build and operate a correctional facility for women in Las Vegas. The Florence McClure Women's Correctional Center opened in September 1997. On October 1, 2004, the Nevada Department of Corrections assumed control of the institution.

INMATES IN DISCIPLINARY SEGREGATION WILL BE ALLOWED ONE (1) NON-CONTACT VISIT PER MONTH WITH NO MORE THAN TWO FAMILY MEMBERS PER VISIT.
*NOTE* - Approved visitors for Segregation inmates may call for an appointment starting Wednesday of the prior week and no later than Friday at 12:00 PM. Institutional count times are 11:15 AM and 3:30 PM daily. Visitors are not allowed to enter the facility after 10:45 AM, 2:45 PM or 6:00 PM on Friday. Visiting will resume after count clears however visitors are not allowed to enter or leave the facility DURING count.
Programs: Vocational Training, Educational Opportunities, and Treatment Services
Florence McClure Women's Correctional Center offers a wide range of programs for all of the inmate population which include but are not limited to: Addiction Prevention Education, Commitment to Change, Domestic Violence, Victim Awareness and Women's Health and Hygiene. Vocational training is also offered which includes Flagging, Forklift Operator, Flower Design and Arrangement. Florence McClure Women's Correctional Center is dedicated to providing long term programs which include: Pups on Parole in where the inmates are trained to be certified dog handlers. The dogs are trained for appropriate placement in Southern Nevada. Also available is the Girl Scouts Beyond Bars program which allows inmates further bonding with their daughters and/or granddaughters. The Toastmasters program is also available. ARCH is a dedicated 120 bed intensive in house substance abuse program. Included in the Re-entry Program is a Solar Institute that offers inmates a trade that can be used for employment upon release. Clark County School District currently offers education to obtain a GED, High School Diploma, Associate of Arts in General Studies and Computer Skills Training. College of Southern Nevada also offers college level courses.
