Howard Skolnik was appointed Director of the Nevada Department of Corrections in February of 2007.
He joined the Nevada Department of Corrections as Deputy Director for Industrial Programs in 1987.
Skolnik began his career in Corrections as a security officer (guard) at the Ohio Penitentiary in 1965. Moving to the Illinois Department of
Corrections in 1966, he served in a variety of positions in both institutions, community corrections and central office.
A graduate of Ohio State University, he received his Master’s Degree from the University of Illinois. Skolnik has had numerous consulting jobs,
including work with the Kellogg School at Northwestern University, the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police and the National Academy of Corrections.
He has served on a variety of committees in the American Correctional Association and is past president and 19-year board member of the National
Correctional Industries Association.
Active in his local community, Skolnik is past president of the Business Council of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce, former member of
the Leadership Las Vegas Council and has worked with Youth Leadership and the Boys and Girls Club of Las Vegas.
