Historical:
In 1979 the State Legislature passed a law authorizing the estabishment of a Restitution Center Program. The law allowed for
a program for non-violent, non-sex offender inmates, who are within one year of term expiration or parole eligibility, the
opportunity to establish employment in the community. The intent was to better prepare inmates for release and to address court
ordered fees, fines, and restitution obligations. In October 1979 the Northern Nevada Restitution Center, (NNRC) opened in Reno
with four residents. In April 1980 the Southern Nevada Restitution Center, (SNRC) opened in North Las Vegas operationg at its
maximum capacity of 40 residents. In August of 1987 the Northern Nevada Restitution Center had a maximum capacity of 48 male and
12 female residents. In April of 1993, NNRC was moved to its present location and can house up to 103 inmates, male only.

The Northern Nevada Restitution Center is operated with eleven staff members:
One manager, (Custody Lieutenant)
Two Casework I Staff
One Accountant III
One Maintenace Worker II
One Correctional Sergeant
Five Correctional Officers
Capacity:
Capacity for NNRC is 103.
Visiting:
Visiting days and hours are:
Thursday thru Sunday 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM
No visits are allowed Monday thru Wednesday
Inmates who are not employed may only have evening visits so as not to interfere with employment seeking activities.
Visits will take plce in the Visiting Room or in the the East Yard (Visiting Quad) only.
All visiting requests are submitted to the Visiting Officer for approval or disapproval.
Special visits should be requested seven (7) days in advance of the visit and must be submitted to the Visiting Officer prior
to being approved/disapproved by the Center Manager.
Programs: Vocational Training, Educational Opportunities, and Treatment Services
Vocatonal Training includes all authorized by the department as available in the community. Educational opportunities include
GED, High School Diploma, Colege Certificats, AA, BA/BS, and MA/MS. Treatment Services offered include New Beginnings, Parenting,
DUI Level I available through the courts, NA/AA at the Center and My Journey Home. My Journey also offers computer usage courses.
