An Offender Re-Entry Program

The Going Home Prepared (GHP) program was
designed to provide Serious and Violent Offenders in Nevada with pre-release
and transitional services. The program was designed through a grant for $1.4
million from the U.S. Department of Justice and 7 other federal agencies. |
Working with over 46 state and local program partners, the Nevada Department
of Corrections Going Home Prepared Program will provide the following services:
During the last 6 months of incarceration:
- Assess enrolled inmates for treatment or planning services and barriers to
successful re-entry
- Provide specific treatment, programming, and instruction for participants
during their last 6 months of incarceration prior to parole
- Training and classes to ease transition back to the community
- Mandatory classes include Victim Empathy, Criminal Thinking Errors and
Life Skills for Re-Entry.
- Other classes will include Parenting Skills, Anger Management, and Health
related courses.
- Work with inmates to develop re-entry plans
- Coordinate re-entry plans with community partners to obtain services for
offenders leaving prison including:
- Mental health treatment & case management;
- Substance Abuse treatment;
- Health services;
- Housing;
- Job training, education and employment services
During the first 12 months of parole:
- Intensive parole supervision for at least the first 6 months
- A Social Worker will be assigned to each GHP parolee to provide assistance
and guidance to participants during the first 12 months in the community
- Monthly appearance in Re-Entry Court (8th Judicial District Court) where the
re-entry plan of each parolee will be monitored by a judge
- The Social Worker will assist in coordinating linkages and referral to
Re-entry Service Providers in Southern Nevada
- The Community Accountability and Support Committee (CASC) will meet to
discuss the progress of each parolee during the first 9-12 months in the
community.
Program Criteria
Participants must meet ALL of the following criteria for entry into the
program:
- Age 14 to 35 at time of release
- Paroling to one of the following Southern Nevada counties: Clark, Nye,
Esmeralda, Lincoln, between Dec. 2003 and June 2006
- Eligible for parole on last and final sentence.
- No immigration detainers or felony holds for other states
- Convicted of a serious and/or violent category A or B felony and/OR Repeat
Offender with violence, weapons and/or gang activity in the past.

Applying to Going Home Prepared
Inmates who are interested in participating in the GHP Program must meet the
criteria of the program.
Any inmate who meets the criteria may apply by filling out the application on
the brochure
The application is reviewed by the GHP staff and submitted to NDOC for
approval
If the inmate meets all criteria their information is submitted to the GHP
Selection Committee, which is composed of members of the GHP Advisory Board.
The selection committee meets regularly to determine those inmates who will
be participating in the program.
